Custom: internal track & trace system

A German research company specializing in TUV material testing for clients faces the challenge of managing and tracking complex product process sequences.

They know that an accurate Track & Trace system is essential to monitor material progress throughout the process, especially in situations where the process sequence is not fixed. To address this challenge, we developed an internal Track & Trace system that allows them to fully track products from arrival through all stages of processing.

Objective

1. Accurate Process Tracking: The company wants to implement a system that enables them to track products accurately from the moment they arrive until all processing stages are completed, always knowing where a customer order is within the company premises.
2. Flexibility for Complex Processes: Since the process sequence is sometimes not fixed, it is important that the system is flexible enough to follow complex process routes and always provide insight into the location of each item.
3. Improved Efficiency and Customer Service: By enabling accurate Track & Trace, the company achieves enhanced operational efficiency and customer service, allowing both internal staff and customers to monitor the progress of the process.

Solution

The research company implemented an internal Track & Trace system that enables them to follow products through all processing stages. Here’s how it works:

1. Scanning: Multiple scanners are available from Zebra and Keyence. Scanning can also be done via Apple (iOS) and Android phones, and the data can be accessed through these devices.
2. Arrival Registration: When new materials arrive, they are registered in the system and assigned unique identification codes that are printed. These codes are used to track the products throughout the entire process.
3. Processing Stages: The system records which operations are performed on the materials, which stages have been completed, and their current locations. Each time a product enters a new processing stage, it is logged in the system along with relevant details such as date, time, and location.
4. Real-time Tracking: The Track & Trace system provides real-time tracking of materials, allowing the internal team to monitor product progress accurately. This ensures improved visibility and control over the process.
5. Dashboards: Various dashboards display relevant product statuses. Optional alert systems are available via email or WhatsApp.

Result

Thanks to this internal Track & Trace system, the research company can track the progress of materials accurately through all processing stages — not only via web, phone, or scanner, but also via dashboards displayed on-site.
